If we keep attention exclusively on the matrix object, used for input/output data, the problem is that of course all the cells are sepparated with a grill but this grill is not visible in order of helping a quick look of that matrix. Making it visible or not as in EXCEL is a simple option.

Regarding "Matrix apperance" the more problematic way is that SMath by design represents a matrix. The problem is when you want to represent a large matrice. It will take large portion of your worksheet
This drawback is overcome with the "Table Region" plugin, but I thinnk that the SMath core muts have a way of representing large matrices
