Hello Andrey, Hello Everibody,

Smath Matrix object is a very useful object.

I would like to propose some discrete separation lines between the cells (as Excel does, for instance), in order to facilitate the good lecture.

I think that the problem belongs to SMath main program and do not to plugins zone.

Thanks,
Ioan

Thank you Jean,

It's interesting what you mention but my objective is another - easily identifying visualy a cell content.

Salut,
Ioan

I support this proposal. Here is an example where it is nearly impossible to visually recognize which spaces separate matrix entries and which separate factors. It could be mitigated by a smaller gap between factors (in those cases where the point is ommitted).

If the matrix grid is introduced, then there should probably be an option to control printing appearance just like with the background grid.

Another solution for making the matrix object more readable would be by making the matrix background slightly colored like a chessboard grid.

Jean, you seems outsids the topic. My subject is the "matrix object" and not the "table object".
They are very differents so please do not poluate the post !

Hi. There are some standards, probably some of mandatory compliance. For instance, ISO 80000-2 (2009, there are some other newest) says

Clipboard01.png

and from NIST Guide to the SI:

Clipboard02.png

So, maybe to solve the hard issue pointed out by Martin, perhaps the best solution is just to increase the spacing between the elements of the matrix. For the original question, about nested arrays, I have no idea.

Best regards.
Alvaro.

Hi Alvaro,

Thank you for your comments.

AFAIK, the matrix object does not introduce specific features that could be in conflict with the ISO 80000-2:2009 standard. The SMath matrix content is always obeying (?) the general representation of data in SMath, what is a full different subject.

My simple objection is that having no visible separators for cells, the easy readability of SMath Matrix Object is not enough facilitated.

I believe that the solution is not too complicated. A lot of successful examples are: the page grill in SMath itself (that can be made visible or not), the MS Excel, the SMath Table Object etc.

I do not see serious objections against some innovative solutions, as far as the main objective is conserved.

I note that the SMath Matrix object is a very smart one, being able to include a large type of content (text, formula, another matrix, eaven complex functions etc.).

Best Regards,
Ioan

Hi Ioan. I know that your improvement is very good to achieve better visualization in SMath. However, comparing how the matrix is displayed with other software, I think the main problem is that we need some more space between the matrix elements.

However, it would be very interesting to also have the options you propose.

Best regards.

Visible separators dates back Mathcad 11, 8 Pro.
matrix:=[sqrt(2)"ln(2)"pi]
matrix=[1.4142"0.6931"3.1416] ... separated c/w separators

I think a visual separator is a good idea.
Maybe these can be used for adding blank rows and columns too.
